The brief
From a design platform to a printed collection.
In 2019, we brought together some of the best projects submitted to UNI.xyz competitions through December 2018. The first yearbook collected award-winning work in architecture, urban, product, interaction and brand design, as inspiration for young designers.
I collected and sorted the project material, organised the book, designed its layouts and cover, and finalised the composition. Teammates helped refine the text and proofread.

Different projects. One coherent book.
The submissions ranged from dense portrait sheets to loosely composed landscape layouts, with different typefaces, colours and content densities. The challenge was to give them a consistent home without flattening those differences.
I used a flexible three- and four-part grid system to accommodate the material. Extra inner margins allowed room for stitching and binding.
From layouts to printed spreads.
Some of my illustrations appeared on the introduction pages. The project spreads show how the layout system accommodated architectural drawings, photography and brand work within the same book.
Cover and packaging
A frame for the work inside.
The cover took inspiration from a picture frame, using deformed typography to create its border.
Readers received the book in a custom-designed 3 mm MDF box. The cuts let the flap open without hinges.
The response
A first edition worth continuing.
Readers received the book warmly, and some shared their appreciation on social media. The response paved the way for future editions.
Exploring the next edition.
At 324 pages, the landscape book was difficult to read while holding it. Looking back, I would have chosen portrait orientation; that was the direction planned for the next yearbook.
For the proposed 2020 yearbook, I kept typography as the cover's central idea and explored new compositions. Both directions below are cover proposals.
